Ammonium Tetrathiomolybdate

Ammonium tetrathiomolybdate was developed as a non-toxic treatment for Wilson’s disease (copper buildup in the body). It binds to copper from food intake and endogenous copper and prevents their absorption when taken with food. Studies have shown a promising treatment for cancer by depriving the tumors of the copper supply needed for new blood vessels that tumors depend on for growth. Cisplatin is an effective breast cancer drug but resistance often develops over prolonged chemotherapy. Studies show Ammonium tetrathiomolybdate targets the copper transporter ATP7A and sensitize breast cancer to Cisplatin treatment as well as decreases resistance to Cisplatin.
